What a great evening - heart-breaking silent movie, wonderful piano from Jane Gardener (strange how I became involved in the movie and forgot there was a pianist in the room - her playing fit the action so well) - and great food. And the mystery of clowns. I'm sure I'll have nightmares about that circle of them round the globe. My other favourite things were the beautiful light fitting in the backroom and the wallpaper in the ladies loo - class.Free maltesers also a bonus. I'll be back. Thanks!

OK, So after a stuttering start to our on-line diary feature this is where we will start afresh; find a voice and write regularly about the lives and wherefores of The Waiting Room. We're hoping to cobble together enough of a 'year in the life of' to give content to a published recipe book come 'year in the life of' diary/scrap book from The Waiting Room. We're mad keen to gather the contributions of customers towards this project - so please use the submit feature on the other half of this page to let us have your thoughts, comments, ideas and creative works, you can even put up photies.
Let's go!
There's all sorts going on here, feast your eyes on the autumn menu, go to waiting for sunday world for our new events programme and enter 'The Waiting for Sunday Ever Expanding World of Universe' for photographs, film clips, music etc.
Come to The Waiting Room to eat the best food.
The Waiting Room will be at a Mima Event in Middlesbrough on Sunday September 3rd, providing the food that feeds the people. We will be closing the restaurant for the day but all are welcome to visit our Marquee and come and spend money and respect at the artist's stalls who are making up the event.
Our autumn programme is taking shape, and it's looking mighty fine. It all kicks off on the weekend of our 20th anniversary celebrations - Sept 16th & 17th - we'll be hosting another garage sale on the 16th and giving away free birthday cake all weekend. The big party on the 17th (enter draw here) launches a truly fantastic sequence of Waiting for Sunday events...
Belgian Chef Andre Schmidt will be staying with us at The Waiting Room and flavouring our specials board with his Belgian fancies from June 11th - 19th.
Andre is to be the new Chef at Bom Bane's a new Cafe to be opened in Brighton this summer by our friends Jane Bom-Bane and Nick Pynn. Bom Bane's will be twinned with The Waiting Room in a ceremony later this year. (She's the lady with the mechanical hats).
Summer is here! - there's no two ways about it, and if the huge ball of fire in the sky wasn't proof enough - burning hotter than a radiator - then what is irrefutable evidence is The Waiting Room Summer Menu; up and running from Thursday June 9th.
In addition to the printed menu and usual blackboard of amazing homemade puddings - we have a summer blackboard of fantastic salads and fresh fruit smoothies. Come and see!
i visited your restaurant last sunday and your chef- mark told us that coincidentally, the day of the world cup final is also the day of the annual vegetarian sabbath so unfortunately you'd be closed. Could you tell me more about the traditions of this holy day?
- Sue Perman
The Waiting Room is now in its 21st year. Woohoo! We'll be having one or two 20th birthday celebrations during June of this year... including a Waiting For Sunday Party Special on June 11th. We'll be putting a link here in the next few days to allow you to enter a draw to win an invite to the bash. Look out for other celebration events over the coming weeks.
We're also having a GARAGE SALE, its on May 6th. It's at The Waiting Room and across the road at our other garage. We'll be putting up pictures of some of the things we have for sale on a shelf of our online shop. Soon!
We've got a big weekend of events ahead of us beginning on Thursday 16th when we launch our Spring Menu.
On Friday the 17th it's St Patrick's Night and we have live music and an Ir-ish Supper going on in the back room (it's ?12), - front room as normal.
On Saturday we have wine tasting and an exhibition viewing from 2.30pm-5pm and on Sunday we have Jazz at lunch time, Poetry in the afternoon and Folk music from Martin Furey in the evening.
Now. Luke's asked me to do a review of the very special Waiting for SundayFriday gig with David Ford and Duke Special. Unfortunately I had one too many organic beers + organic cigarettes that evening and can't remember a great deal so I'll be adopting a gonzo style. Don't despair though as the fan boys + girls have provided an exhaustive set list replete, as all good lists should be, with italics + square brackets. In fact I think I'll do this review in list format as a mark of respect.
My thanks to all for a magic evening. All-toge-ther-now: ' I could go to Stockton, I could go to Stockton...'
UPDATE: There's some videos up now.
