The Waiting Room

The Waiting Room

Newsletter - Wednesday 28 May 2008

This Waiting for Sunday June 1st we proudly present...

Thomas Truax

Thomas Truax is a madcap inventor of mechanical instruments, fantasmagorical songs and profound wackiness.

The Wallace and Grommit of one man bands was nominated for best live act of 2008 alongside the Arctic Monkeys and the like.

Thomas's previous shows at the Waiting Room have been quite awesome.

Please note that Chip Bailey (Duke Special's drummer percussionist) who was also due to play on Sunday with his own brand new show has gone and broken his arm and so has had to postpone his visit here until July. We wish Chip a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him soon.

We may yet have news of an able deputy..., please reply to this message to be informed.

From 7pm £5 cover.

Looking ahead; Hilarity Bites are running a comedy night at our place on June 15th. Here is some news of their line up:

Darlington's Hilarity Bites Comedy Club hits the road as it brings two of the best acts from the UK circuit to the intimate atmosphere of The Waiting Room for what is sure to be a top night of comedy. The two acts on the bill are:

Seymour Mace
Seymour was City Life Comedian of the Year in 2003 and Best Breakthrough Act at the North West Comedy Awards in 2004. He has featured in all four series of BBC's 'Ideal', playing twins 'Craig' and 'Steve', leaving Seymour unable to walk down the street without being recognised by the nation’s stoners - and Johnny Vegas fans! He has also worked with the likes of Russell Brand and Clive Anderson in recent years, whilst his Edinburgh Fringe show last year won rave reviews.

"his best ideas are wittily inventive" - Chortle

"always fun to watch, wilfully odd yet compelling" - Scotsman

Dave Twentyman
Currently riding high on the UK comedy scene, Dave is one of the most affable and naturally gifted comedians you'll see this year - as well as being one of Hilarity Bites's favourite new acts. Dave's strengths are his improvisation & interaction delivered with genuine warmth & charm, all the ingredients needed for a natural compere.

He is one of the best things to come out of St.Helens from a long list that already includes Rugby League, Johnny Vegas, glass, The Transport Museum & Margaret off the Weakest Link.

"Superb, naturally funny" - The Hyena

"Quick on his feet, reminiscent of a young Johnny Vegas" - The Frog & Bucket

"Very funny, lovely young man" - XFM

"Funny and friendly" - The Northern Echo
